CAMDEN WIN HOME OPENER, BEAT OCEAN 83-68
Cougars 2nd half surge leads to victory
Blackwood NJ -- CCC Men's Basketball Win Home Opener
In front of an energized home crowd at the Joseph Papiano Memorial Gymnasium, Camden County College kicked off their men's basketball season with a 81-68 win over Ocean County College.
Camden came out the gate with their trademark hustle and intensity, a staple of Coach Lou Abbattista's program over the last 14 years as Head Coach. Their strong play set the tone for the first half and allowed them to go into the break up seven, 34-27.
Ultimately, the Cougars offense surged in the second half - resulting 49 total points and an opening season win against a GSAC opponent.
Sophomore Forward Mikey Campbell (Fayetteville, NC) and Freshman Forward Istavan Norwood (Dover, DE) led the frontcourt with strong overall play. Campbell finished with 21p, 7r, 1a and 1s while Norwood collected 17p, 9r, 2a and a steal.
The pair combined to shoot 15/26 from the field.
Freshman Guard Kevin Satchell also had a strong debut, registering 14p, 3r along with 3 steals.
Coach Lou stated postgame:
"This has the potential to be a very good team, and as they get older and learn more, we'll play better."
Looking ahead, the win sets the groundwork for what hopes to be a successful season for the Cougars. Their ability to knock down shots from the perimeter should unlock their entire offensive attack and bode well as the season progresses.
