CAMDEN GET BACK ON TRACK, BEST ATLANTIC CAPE
CCC MBB win tight battle with Atlantic Cape, improve to 6-2
Blackwood, NJ -- Cougars storm back after deficit, triumph over Atlantic Cape
In a statement win that showcased resilience, composure, and late-game execution, the Camden CC men's basketball team stormed back from a 10-point second-half deficit to defeat Atlantic Cape in a thrilling 61-55 win.
CCC came out in the 1H strong, creating a lead and sustaining it for most of the period. However, Cape did not relent, putting together a few strong minutes to close the gap heading into halftime, 25-21.
Nonetheless, after halftime it was a different game. Atlantic Cape came out with a sense of urgency and started to gain momentum with their pressure defense, forcing the Cougars into a multitude of turnovers which resulted in points, allowing them to build a 10-point lead.
However, with roughly 8 minutes remaining, the Cougars began their surge. They tightened up their defense, holding Atlantic Cape to contested shots and forcing turnovers. CCC was also able to create a rhythm offensively, breaking the press and punishing Cape for their aggressive defense and capitalizing during transition opportunities leading to the close home win.
Freshman Forward, Ben McGonigle (Ocean City, NJ) provided a key spark for the Cougars, controlling the game with his pace, passing ability and IQ. His pension to break the press, start the break and put his teammates in positions to succeed proved to be the difference, leading the Cougars to a statement, comeback win.
Head Coach, Lou Abbattista praised his team's determination:
"We talk all the time about toughness and responding to adversity. Tonight our guys showed exactly what that looks like."
The Cougars (6-2) now turn their attention to Saturday afternoon as they host Brookdale CC (7-4) at 2pm.
