CAMDEN GET BACK ON TRACK, WIN BIG OVER CUMBERLAND
Second half surge powers Cougars past rival
Blackwood, NJ -- Cougars get back in win column
CCC MBB (9-4) utilized a second-half surge and blew out rival Cumberland last Thursday, 76-55.
What began as a physical, back-and-forth contest turned into a statement performance for the Cougars as they handled the Dukes at home.
Camden's offense was the story in this one once they settled into the game. They consistently created quality scoring opportunities at the rim, exposing a weakness in the Dukes interior defense.
While the two teams traded baskets early, Camden flipped the switch mid-way through the 1H and dominated the paint, stretching a slim lead into a comfortable 36-25 cushion going into halftime.
Overall, the Cougars shot a staggering 53.8% from the field which is tied for their highest mark of the season.
As a result of that, Cumberland struggled to slow them down and were playing at a deficit for most of the afternoon.
The 2H was similar as the Dukes came out with energy, focused on trimming the lead and putting game pressure on the Cougars.
Nonetheless, Camden responded, and their inside presence proved to be too much overcome.
Forwards Istavan Norwood (Dover, DE) and Mikey Campbell (Fayetteville, NC) were difference makers all afternoon, leading the team collectively.
Norwood was excellent, providing timely baskets and a physical presence. He would go on to register the first double-double of his career with 21 points, 10 rebounds on 10-14 shooting from the field.
Campbell also had a great outing, registering 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks & 1 steal.
The duo continue to provide a strong inside presence for Coach Abbattista, who praised their efforts after the game.
Camden will head into the break now sitting at 9-4 and primed for the second half of the season.
