CAMDEN MBB SUFFER HOME DEFEAT TO MERCER
Cougars finish the season 17-12 (12-5 GSAC)
Blackwood, NJ -- Cougars fall at home in non-gsac matchup
CCC MBB (17-12) came up short on Tuesday, dropping a 79–67 decision to Mercer County Community College (16-12) in front of a home crowd, just their 4th home loss all season.
The contest featured momentum swings early on both ends of the floor, but Mercer's balanced scoring and execution down the stretch proved to be the difference. The Mustangs managed to control the tempo in key moments, pulling ahead due to strong shooting and timely defensive plays.
In the 1H, the pace was back and forth with both teams executing on both ends. While Camden looked to establish themselves inside the paint, they were forced to adjust as Mercer utilized their zone defense. As a result, their offense was disrupted and out of rhythm, which contributed to the Mustangs creating and sustaining a lead. Going into the break, the Cougars were down 32-27.
In the 2H, while Camden battled throughout the matchup, still missing several key players due to injury, were unable to sustain consistent offensive runs when it mattered most. They struggled to stop Mercer and traded baskets with them in the latter stages of the frame. Ultimately, the Cougars were outscored 40-47 in the 2H of play and couldn't keep pace with Mercer's efficiency on offense.
As the season ends and the post-season commences, CCC MBB finishes their season with a 17-12 overall record (12-5 GSAC). They were 12-4 in Papiano Gymnasium and hope to potentially host a playoff game for the final time this season.
The Cougars (17-12) now look forward to competing in the playoffs and await seeding information from Region XIX to determine who/where they will play.
