CAMDEN WBB HANDED 86-55 LOSS AT ESSEX, END STREAK
Lady Cougars 4 game winning streak comes to an end
Blackwood, NJ -- Lady Cougars fall on the road to Essex
The surging CCC WBB team (7-7) returned to action after the winter break, taking their 4 game winning streak on the road against Essex County College this past Saturday. Unfortunately, the game ended on a tough note for the Lady Cougars as they fell 86–55 to Essex County College (10-4).
After a back and forth first quarter in which Camden finished with the lead, the second quarter of play proved to be the difference in this Region XIX matchup.
Going into the 2Q, Essex improved their effort on the offensive side of the ball while also hunkering down on the defensive end, limiting Camden to just 6 points to their 24.
As a result of the poor offensive quarter for the Lady Cougars, Essex was able to take advantage and establish a double-digit, 38-21 lead going into halftime.
Despite the deficit, the Lady Cougars continued to compete, improving their scoring output in the 2H by scoring 17 points in the both quarters of play.
Nontheless, the Lady Cougars could not slow down the high powered Essex offense, which scored 23 and 25 points in the third and fourth quarters respectively, culminating in a 85-55 setback.
Second year Guard Erica Paranzino (Washington, Township, NJ) was strong in the setback, scoring 23 points on 7-11 shooting. She also added 2 assists and 3 steals.
Freshman Guard Anissa Spurlock (Willingboro, NJ) was steady in her first outing of the season, adding 13 points 5 rebounds and 6 steals.
Despite the loss, the game served as an important step in shaking off rust for the Lady Cougars who ended the fall semester on a 4 game winning streak.
Moving forward, Lady Cougars will use this past contest as another avenue to grow and identify areas of improvement as conference play continues to intensify in the second half of the season. CCC WBB will look to build on the positives from the contest as they prepare for their next matchup.
The Lady Cougars (7-7) aim to bounce back quickly as they travel to Northampton (9-4) on Thursday, January 15th to match up against another Region XIX opponent.
