CAMDEN WBB HANDED LOSS AT GLOUCESTER
The set-back halt's the Lady Cougars three-game streak
Blackwood, NJ -- Lady Cougars see streak end to rival, Gloucester
CCC WBB (12-9) suffered its first loss after three straight victories, falling to Rowan College of South Jersey–Gloucester (15-6) on the road.
Coming into the contest with momentum on their side, Camden had been playing some of their best basketball of the season, stringing together three consecutive wins with their depth and balanced scoring at the forefront. However, all of the pre-game superlatives and win-loss records don't mean much when competing against a heated cross-town rival.
At the start of the game, Gloucester came out strong and steady on their home floor, scoring 24 points compared to Camden's 12. The scoring output for the Roadrunners left the Lady Cougars on their heels, playing at an early deficit going into the 2Q.
However, as the Cougars settled into the game, their defense started to produce stops, holding their opponent to just four 2Q points. Their ability to exhibit defensive pressure and force turnovers got them right back into the game as they went into the break down just one, 27-28.
The second half proved to be quite the opposite as the first, with both teams staring to establish themselves with more consistent play on both ends. Camden scored 17 in the 3rd compared to Gloucester's 19, which was befitting for such a rivalry.
With Gloucester again leading by just one point 47-46, the anticipation heading into the 4Q was palpable. Both teams were looking to impose their will and best their opponent. Nonetheless, after a back and forth start, the Lady Cougars offense faltered both from the field and the free-throw line which propelled the Roadrunners to build and maintain a lead, culminating to a 15-point loss for the Lady Cougars.
Freshman Guard, Anissa Spurlock (Willingboro, NJ) shined in the setback, registering a double-double (24 points, 11 steals). Her 11 steals are one off her season high. She also secured 4 rebounds.
Freshman Guard, Angela Karamasakis (Washington Township, NJ) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and three assists.
The Lady Cougars (12-9) now turn their sights to tomorrow as they travel to Philadelphia to take on CCP (12-5). Tip-off is scheduled at noon.
