Blackwood, NJ -- Lady Cougars get back in the win column, beat rival
CCC WBB (13-10) delivered a strong performance in a rivalry matchup Tuesday, defeating Rowan College of South Jersey–Cumberland (0-17) 79-43 to improve to 13-10 on the season with one regular-season game remaining.
After a recent setback, Camden came into this matchup focused and looking to get back in the win column. With just one game remaining before post-season play commences, the Lady Cougars understood what it means to finish strong. As a result, they set the tone early and maintained control throughout the contest, culminating in a wire-to-wire victory.
Defensively, Camden applied consistent pressure, forcing key turnovers and limiting second chance opportunities. They affected Cumberland's rhythm all game, leaving them on their heels. The Lady Cougars finished the game with a season-high 25 steals. They held Cumberland to just 43 total points, highlighted by a strong defensive third quarter in which they allowed just 9 points.
On the offensive end, the Lady Cougars moved the ball effectively, registering 29 assists -- four off their season high. They also secured 29 offensive rebounds, the second most all season. Camden showcased a balanced scoring effort throughout the matchup, scoring 20 points in 3 out of 4 quarters.
Overall, it was an impressive effort on both sides of the ball, especially offensively as four Lady Cougars were able to score in double figures while 21 points came from the reserves.
Anissa Spurlock (Willingboro, NJ) led the way with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists & 5 steals. Spurlock has registered a steal in every game she's played in this season and has recorded at least 4 steals in 5 straight games.
Angela Karamasakis (Washington Township, NJ) stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists, 6 steals and 3 blocks. She set season/career marks with 9 assists and tied her season/career high with 6 steals.
Ashley Stanz (Blackwood, NJ) finished with a near double-double (9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists & 2 steals).
Next up, The Lady Cougars will look to close out their regular season on a high note as they prepare to host Northampton (16-6) on Tuesday, 2/17. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
